Brighton and Tottenham Track Galatasaray’s Breakout Star Aleksey Batrakov
Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Galatasaray attacking midfielder Aleksey Batrakov, whose rapid rise in Istanbul has attracted growing attention from Premier League clubs.
The 21-year-old Russian international joined Galatasaray in a high-profile €25 million transfer during the summer window. He arrived with significant expectations, but has made an immediate impression, adapting quickly to Turkish football and contributing in both domestic competition and Europe.
Batrakov’s performances in the Champions League have been especially eye-catching. He scored against Barcelona and Lille, raising his profile across Europe and earning praise for his technical ability and tireless work in the attacking third.
His early-season numbers underline that impact. In 10 appearances across all competitions, the versatile playmaker has recorded two goals and two assists. While those figures are only a snapshot of his contribution, they reflect how quickly he has become involved in Galatasaray’s forward play.
Brighton’s interest would fit the club’s established approach of identifying promising players who have shown they can perform on a major European stage. The Seagulls are assessing possible additions to their attack, and Batrakov’s age, versatility and recent Champions League displays make him a player worth watching.
Tottenham are also keeping tabs on his development as they consider their longer-term midfield plans. Batrakov’s ability to operate as an attacking midfielder could offer Spurs another option between the lines, although interest at this stage does not necessarily mean that a formal offer is imminent.
Any pursuit is likely to be complicated by Galatasaray’s position. The Istanbul club are top of the Süper Lig after a 2-1 derby win over Fenerbahçe and have no immediate sporting pressure to part with one of their emerging talents.
Galatasaray reportedly value Batrakov at around €25 million, matching the fee they paid to bring him to Turkey. He is under contract until 2031, giving the club considerable leverage in any negotiations and reducing the need to consider a sale on unfavourable terms.
That long contract also means a move would depend on more than the player’s growing reputation. A potential buyer would need to convince Galatasaray that its offer reflects Batrakov’s importance and future potential, while the midfielder himself would have to weigh the benefits of changing leagues against the prospect of continuing his development in Istanbul.
For Brighton, a transfer would represent a continuation of their focus on young, upwardly mobile talent. The club would likely consider how well Batrakov’s movement, creativity and technical quality could translate to the pace and physical demands of the Premier League.
Tottenham’s calculation may be different. Their interest is linked to longer-term squad planning, so the club could monitor his progress before deciding whether to move. Further European performances and consistency in the Süper Lig may help determine whether he is viewed as an immediate target or a future opportunity.
Batrakov’s next steps at Galatasaray will therefore be closely watched. Regular minutes, continued involvement in important matches and further contributions in Europe could strengthen his position in the transfer market, but they may also make Galatasaray even less inclined to sell.
With Brighton and Tottenham both assessing his development, competition for the Russian international could intensify ahead of the next summer window. For now, however, Galatasaray remain in control: Batrakov is under a long-term contract, the club are enjoying a strong season, and no immediate departure appears necessary.
