Kenan Yıldız Set for Extended Juventus Layoff After Metatarsal Operation

Juventus will begin the season without one of their most promising attacking players after Kenan Yıldız suffered a fracture to the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. The Turkish forward is expected to miss between two and three months, creating an early selection problem for manager Luciano Spalletti.

The injury occurred during Juventus’ 1-0 victory over Frosinone on the opening matchday. Yıldız was unable to continue and was replaced in the 69th minute. Subsequent medical examinations revealed that the damage was serious enough to require surgery rather than conservative treatment.

Juventus Confirm the Severity of the Injury

Club official Giorgio Chiellini confirmed that Yıldız will undergo corrective surgery and face a lengthy rehabilitation period. Although the absence represents a significant setback for Juventus, the club has stressed that the injury is not expected to threaten the player’s long-term career.

“There will be further medical updates, but Kenan has suffered a metatarsal injury, will need surgery and will be out for a few months,” Chiellini said. “Thankfully, for both the club and the player, it is not an injury that puts his long-term future at risk.”

The operation is intended to stabilize the fractured bone and provide the best conditions for a complete recovery. Once the procedure is completed, Yıldız will begin a carefully managed rehabilitation program involving rest, physiotherapy, strength work and a gradual return to football-specific training.

Which Matches Could Yıldız Miss?

The expected recovery period of approximately ten to twelve weeks could keep the 21-year-old away from as many as 14 competitive matches. His absence is likely to affect Juventus during one of the busiest phases of the campaign.

Yıldız is expected to miss a substantial number of Serie A fixtures in September and October, including matches in which Juventus may need additional creativity and pace in the final third. His ability to operate across the forward line has made him an important part of the team’s attacking structure.

The Turkish international is also set to miss Juventus’ first four UEFA Europa League league-phase matches. His unavailability could force the coaching staff to manage the workload of the remaining forwards more carefully, particularly if domestic and European fixtures arrive in quick succession.

The most optimistic return date would be late November, potentially after the autumn international break. However, Juventus are unlikely to rush the player back. A metatarsal injury can worsen if a footballer returns before the bone has fully healed, so the medical team will prioritize long-term recovery over a specific comeback date.

Juventus Must Find a New Attacking Balance

Yıldız’s absence will require Spalletti to adjust his attacking plans. The young forward brings direct running, technical quality and the ability to play either from a wide position or closer to the center. Replacing that combination may require a collective solution rather than relying on a single substitute.

Jérémie Boga is expected to receive more opportunities while Yıldız is unavailable. His experience and one-on-one ability could provide Juventus with an alternative source of width and penetration. Kerim Alajbegović is also likely to see an increase in playing time as the club looks to maintain depth in attack.

The injury may also lead to tactical changes. Juventus could use a more conventional winger system, place greater responsibility on the central striker or ask midfielders to contribute more aggressively in the final third. Spalletti will have to decide whether to preserve the team’s existing structure or modify it according to the strengths of the available players.

A Difficult Blow for a Rising Star

For Yıldız, the timing is particularly frustrating. At 21, he was entering a crucial stage of his development and had the opportunity to establish himself as a regular contributor for Juventus. A long spell on the sidelines interrupts that momentum and limits his chance to build rhythm at the start of the season.

Nevertheless, the club’s assessment that the injury is not career-threatening offers important reassurance. With appropriate surgery and rehabilitation, Yıldız should be able to return to full fitness and resume his progress once the recovery process is complete.

His rehabilitation will likely be divided into several stages. The initial period will focus on protecting the foot and allowing the bone to heal. This will be followed by mobility exercises, progressive strength training and non-contact conditioning. Only after he demonstrates that the foot can tolerate increased load will he begin running and ball work.

Return Will Depend on Medical Clearance

Even if Yıldız is back in team training by late November, his first appearances may be carefully controlled. Juventus could introduce him through short substitute appearances before restoring him to the starting lineup. This approach would reduce the risk of recurrence and help the player regain confidence.

The club will also monitor how the injured foot responds to changes in direction, acceleration and physical contact. These movements place considerable stress on the metatarsals, particularly for a forward whose game relies on explosive bursts and close control.

For now, Juventus must cope without one of their key young talents. The club’s immediate objective will be to remain competitive in Serie A and Europe until Yıldız is ready to return. If his rehabilitation proceeds as planned, the Turkish attacker could become an important addition to the squad during the second half of the season.

The setback is serious, but it is viewed as temporary. Juventus will hope that careful treatment, patience and effective squad management allow Kenan Yıldız to return at full strength rather than risk an early comeback that could prolong the problem.
