Fenerbahçe Eye Everton’s Carlos Alcaraz Ahead of January Transfer Window
Fenerbahçe are considering a January move for Everton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz as they look to strengthen the centre of their squad for the second half of the season. The Turkish club are understood to see the Argentine as a possible solution to their need for a dynamic midfielder, and his limited involvement in England could make a temporary transfer attainable.
Alcaraz, 23, has struggled to secure regular minutes since joining Everton. His opportunities this season have been especially scarce: he has played just 26 minutes across all competitions, including four minutes in two Premier League appearances and 22 minutes across two EFL Cup outings.
That lack of action may prompt the midfielder to consider a move where he can play more consistently. Regular football would give him the chance to regain momentum and continue his development, while a January departure could offer a practical route out of his current fringe role.
Fenerbahçe’s recruitment team are reportedly examining the possibility of bringing him to Istanbul on loan. The proposed structure would include an option to buy, allowing the club to assess his impact before making a permanent commitment. No completed agreement has been announced.
The Turkish side are said to believe Alcaraz could bring qualities their midfield needs: forward movement with the ball, energy in central areas and composure when pressed. Those attributes would fit a team aiming to remain competitive in the title race and strengthen its ambitions in European football.
Alcaraz’s previous experience includes spells with Southampton and Juventus before his move to Everton. At a reported market valuation of around €15 million, a loan with a purchase option could limit Fenerbahçe’s immediate financial risk while leaving open the possibility of a longer-term deal.
For the player, the appeal of the move would likely depend on more than the destination. A clear role and credible prospects of starting regularly could be decisive after a season in which his appearances have been brief. Fenerbahçe would need to show how he fits into their plans and how much responsibility he could expect to take on.
Everton’s position will also shape any negotiations. The club would have to decide whether Alcaraz remains part of its plans for the second half of the season or whether a loan would be preferable to leaving him with limited opportunities. The terms of a potential agreement-including the length of the loan and the conditions attached to a purchase option-would need to satisfy both sides.
A temporary move could give Fenerbahçe a low-risk way to add depth and give Alcaraz a chance to rebuild his rhythm. It would not, however, guarantee an immediate starting place: he would still need to adapt to a new league, teammates and tactical demands.
The January transfer window may therefore offer a useful opportunity for all parties. Fenerbahçe could reinforce their midfield, Everton could help a little-used player find regular football, and Alcaraz could seek a more prominent role. For now, the proposed loan remains a reported target rather than a confirmed deal, with further progress likely to depend on the clubs’ terms and the player’s assessment of his prospects in Istanbul.
